Mid-Year Reset: Journal Prompts for a Meaningful Q3

The middle of the year is the perfect time to pause and check in with yourself. Maybe you have accomplished more than you realize. Maybe your priorities have shifted. Or maybe life simply looked different than you expected and that is okay.

Instead of focusing on everything you haven’t done, use these prompts to reflect on what is working, what no longer serves you, and how you want to move through the next three months with intention.

Grab your favorite notebook, pour a cup of coffee or tea, and spend some time reconnecting with yourself.

1. Look Back Before You Look Ahead

If you created a vision board, bingo card, or set goals at the beginning of the year, take a few minutes to revisit them.

  • What goals have you already accomplished?
  • What progress are you proud of, even if it feels small?
  • Which goals still excite you?
  • Are there any that no longer feel aligned with who you are today? Why?

Remember, changing your mind isn’t failure, it’s growth.

2. Imagine Your Ideal End to Q3

Fast forward three months.

  • What would make you feel proud of how you spent this quarter?
  • What would you regret not doing?
  • What three goals would make the biggest positive impact on your life?

3. Do Your Habits Match Your Goals?

We often focus on outcomes, but our daily habits determine where we end up.

Ask yourself:

  • Do my current habits support the life I am trying to create?
  • Which habit is helping me the most right now?
  • Which habit keeps getting pushed aside?
  • What is one small habit I could start this week that future me would be grateful for?

4. Build Your Non-Negotiables

Think about the version of yourself you are working toward.

What routines would that person protect, even on busy days?

Write down 3–5 non-negotiables that deserve a permanent place in your schedule.

Examples:

  • Moving your body
  • Drinking enough water
  • Journaling
  • Reading
  • Going to bed on time
  • Time outdoors
  • Working on a personal goal
  • Meal prepping
  • Spending uninterrupted time with family

Then ask yourself: What is getting in the way of being consistent?

5. Try Something New

Growth usually starts with trying something unfamiliar.

What is one new experience, hobby, or challenge you would like to explore this quarter?

Maybe it is:

  • Taking a fitness class
  • Starting a garden
  • Learning to cook a new cuisine
  • Joining a book club
  • Running your first 5K
  • Taking a solo coffee date
  • Starting a creative hobby

Then ask: What has stopped me from trying it before?

6. Check In With Your Mindset

Sometimes our mindset, not our ability, is what holds us back.

Reflect on these questions:

  • What thoughts have been showing up repeatedly lately?
  • What is one limiting belief I would like to let go of?
  • What belief would I rather replace it with?
  • What reminder do I need to hear most right now?

7. Invest in Yourself

Personal growth doesn’t always require a huge transformation.

Ask yourself:

  • What is one area of my life I would like to grow in?
  • What is one book, podcast, course, or skill that could help me?
  • What is the very first step I can take this week?

Small, consistent actions create lasting change.

8. Practice the Delight Theory

One idea I love is what I call The Delight Theory: intentionally doing one small thing every day simply because it brings you joy.

Not because it is productive.
Not because it checks a box.
Just because it makes life feel a little lighter.

Ask yourself:

  • What are five little things that instantly brighten my day?
  • Which of these could I intentionally make time for this week?
  • How can I make my everyday life feel more special instead of waiting for vacations or weekends?

Your list might include:

  • A slow morning coffee
  • A walk outside
  • Reading for 20 minutes
  • Fresh flowers
  • Calling a friend
  • Listening to your favorite playlist
  • Watching the sunset
  • Baking something fun

Joy deserves a place on your calendar, too.

9. Write a Letter to Your Future Self

Imagine it is the end of September.

Write a short letter beginning with:

“I’m so proud of you because…”

Describe:

  • What you accomplished
  • How you felt
  • The habits you stayed consistent with
  • The mindset you developed
  • The memories you created

Then seal it away until the end of the quarter.

A Gentle Reminder

You don’t have to reinvent your life every three months.

Sometimes the biggest transformations come from showing up for yourself in small ways, over and over again.

As you move into this next quarter, focus less on being perfect and more on becoming someone you genuinely enjoy being.

Journal Prompt: If I focused on consistency instead of perfection for the next three months, how would my life look different by the end of the quarter?
